Interpreting Scores

Here is our new resource which teaches music theory/notation but with a twist. Instead of this being about knowledge to learn and then reguritate in an exam, students will learn skills and knowledge to enable them to conduct and direct a musical ensemble.

This course is delivered in a 'flipped classroom' format with online videos to watch, but teachers and students are encouraged to solidify learning through practical classroom activities that are suggested in the book.

All musical/theoretical concepts are introduced in a context of a real score/recording so ākonga should always understand the 'point' of what they are learning.

Students are assessed through the pratical conducting of an ensemble, and their interpretation of the symbols and signs in a score. Students also need to prepare a score for an ensemble which requires them to transcribe and transpose parts so musicians have the correct scores to play.
